ty musical
My Ty musical, not the most enjoyable experience to be blunt, I felt it wasn’t inclusive whatsoever and did not convey the talent of our year as a whole. The choice of musical was a questionable one to say the least, with 67 out of 92 of our year being male, choosing a predominantly female production was let’s hope, a bold move to conform to the trends our society is subject to today, which of course trumps the “bringing your year together” aspect of which we were assured of. An alternate view could be seen in the fact that there is an notably high concentration of skilled actors and singers in the women of our year, however one cannot disregard a certain sex because it makes their lives easier.
I love acting, but was unable to fully enjoy my time due to my small role and its disregard which, I found unfair and wrong especially in an time where equality is the at the forefront of our minds. I would have loved to talk about all the things we did to prepare for the play but for most of us, we spent our invaluable time waiting around doing nothing.
I would love for this to be longer, but I don’t want to ramble on about the integral importance of my job as a backup dancer.
Yours faithfully and respectively,
Rory Brady
